from Deutsche Welle and other sources: 31.01.2003 03:00 UTC Al-Qaeda thought to be developing 'dirty' bomb The British government has confimred reports by the BBC that British officials have presented evidence which they claim shows that al-Qaeda has been trying to assemble radioactive material to build a so-called dirty bomb. The BBC said officials now believed al-Qaeda had the expertise and possibly the materials for a crude radioactive bomb, but probably not a full blown nuclear device. The BBC added it had been shown secret intelligence apparently supporting the claim from British agents who had inflitrated al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan while posing as recruits. The agents revealed that al-Qaeda's weapons programme was further developed than previously thought.
